I am the Weakest Link

Blackrock Depths

I ran an instance, Blackrock Depths, with Icesseyes and Madmaxx last night.  It was totally crazy, and how I found out about it was totally cool.  I logged on yesterday to do a bit of guild recruiting (focusing on the lower-level guys) and I checked GroupCalendar.  I usually check it, just to make sure I have the sync down correctly, and to my surprise there was an event that I didn’t create!  I quickly checked to see what was going on and Jordi scheduled a Blackrock Depths run for 7pm, server time.  Of course, Madmaxx was online and I asked him about it.  Jordi scheduled it for maxx and if anyone wanted to run they were more than welcome.  I marked in the calendar that I was a “maybe” and went on my merry way.

I got back in around 6:45 PM, asked how to get to this place and started my journey.  I had some hidden wife AGRO, so I logged off for a minute and spent some time with her.  Got back on at 7:00 PM and headed, for the first time, to Burning Steppes.  It’s a dark and firey place full of mobs that resist any and everything I throw at them. I’m a level 49 priest (originally spec’d Dicipline, now adjusted for Shadow).  At the first gate there was a Lava Elemental, level 53.  There was no way I could get around it without pulling agro.  So; I said to myself, “I’ll just take him on head-strong.”  I should be able to deal some sort of damage - yah right!  I started to attack and just about everything I threw at it I saw the dreaded word “resisted” above it.  It was totally hopefully, by this time the elemental took my shield down and I was left with only one option.  Run for my life (or what’s left of it)!  I started to run, even tried a Psychic Scream to by some time, but it resisted that too.  I was dead in no time.  I laughed and shared it with the guild.  That was my first taste of this zone and I was sorely afraid.

NightsaberSo; I waited for backup to get there.  I took a quick ride on my mighty nightsaber around Redridge.  I saw a bunch of level 20 mobs and made one lap.  Ice showed up and she escorted me to a flight point and then to Blackrock Mountain.  That place was a sight to see… all the Horde enemy around and the dragons and scorpions, I really felt in danger riding through there.  The only other time I felt like that was Stranglethorn Vale.  Well; we got to the instance and dove right in.  Yah, we 3-man’d it!  Ice and Maxx took the lead role while I stayed close behind them - for some reason I kept pulling agro.  I thought to myself, “What!?  How do I keep doing it?  I must be the biggest newb!”  Luckily; Ice told me that they usually go for the weakest group memeber or the healer - great; I was both!

For a good while I felt worthless.  My attacks weren’t doing much damage and my heals were a joke.  Ice’s health points maxed out at 4k, my greatest heal only generated about 1k.  My HP was a mere 1.2k.  These two had better DPS, better armor and better heals.  I felt like the little brother that wanted to tag along.  Max and Ice were very nice about it though.  They kept telling me that we’re here to have fun.  Man with brothers-in-arms like that, no wonder why I’d follow them to the end of Azeroth.

Crowd ControlI kept trying to find a way to “contribute” to the team effort.  My heals worked, but not terribly effective.  Eventually; I remembered that I have the crowd-control skill “Mind Control”.  That was GOLD!  The crowds were in groups of three or four and I would control one of them and help kill the others.  I finally felt like I was doing something.  After doing it a couple times we got the hang of pointing out who they wanted me to mind control.  We wiped lots of times, but it was fun.  I got tired and we all jetison the instance.  Good time though, good times.
