Taking Better Screenshots

Since we have a new gallery available to us, I thought I’d share my $0.02 with you all about taking great… ah… mediocre screenshots.  You kind of need to think of yourself as a photographer - get into that mindset of looking for the right angles, the right scenery, and taking that shot.  It may take 2 min or up to 10 min to find the right screenshot.

What to Do!

  • Be aware of your surroundings, make believe you’re telling a story with your pictures.
  • Close up shots are great, we want to see your character and his/her gear - not the landscape and a spec of your toon.
  • Odd angles some times works best, your shots don’t always have to be a mugshot of your toon.
  • You are in a 3D world, use your mouse and spin that camera around that character until you get something you like.
  • Take your time.
  • To hide the UI, press [ALT + Z] on your keyboard.  Then you can take a great shot without all that clutter.
  • Try different emotes for poses, such as: /kneel, /applaud, /cheer, /sit.
  • Flaunt your weapon(s), press the [Z] key on your keyboard to toggle your weapon(s).

What Not to Do!

  • Don’t take pictures of only the scenery, find a way to get your character to standout.  Zoom in!
  • Don’t just take one screenshot and call it a wrap - take as many shots as you feel necessary until you get the desired shot.
  • Get your pointer out of the shot; you want to give the illusion that you photographed this screenshot - not push PrntScn.

I managed to get my own album in. Unfortunately I have no idea how to get it to not be on top of the list, I thought it’d be showing up last.

That’s fine, doesn’t matter who’s on top - I’m just happy to see you fellas submitting screenshots! Ha-ha :D
